Language should never create an obstacle for even the most newly arrived immigrants. The key to closing this communication gap is to speak each others’ language. That’s what this Web site and blog are all about. My lifelong commitment to language goes beyond my role as president and COO of Language Line Services and dates back to a wonderful childhood filled with exposure to numerous cultures and languages, many of which I still speak today.
The stakes are extremely high. Through the years, I’ve learned that the difference between life and death is often being understood when it matters most – such as on the front lines of law enforcement and in critical healthcare encounters. As the world evolves into a global melting pot, we’re all at risk without better assured communication.
My goal with this site is to engage in dialog with everyone who wants to comment on issues related to language access and obstacles facing limited English speakers in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Australia.
